Home Business Tips - Don"t Be a Nit Picker

103 25
There are plenty of things that home business owners do that pretty much self destruct their business or at the very least, render it ineffective.
One of the things that drives me crazy, and is totally unproductive, is being nit picky.
Now don't get me wrong.
I'm not suggesting you just toss a home business together.
But there comes a point in time when you have to cut the apron strings and allow your business to get out there and do its thing.
This article is going to go over a few of the nit picky things people do.
One thing is the actual choice for a domain name.
I have seen people turn down perfectly good domain names for a business because they couldn't get that name without a dash in between words or because one word that wasn't even that important wasn't available in just the order they wanted it.
I almost equate this to being OCD.
But that's a topic for another article.
Don't drive yourself crazy looking for the perfect domain name.
Today, the perfect domain name probably is long gone.
Accept it and take one that is good enough.
Another big nit pick that home business owners are guilty of is in the design of their web site.
This totally drives me up the wall.
I've seen people drive themselves nuts just trying to figure out where to put their opt in box.
Should they put it one inch from the top margin just under the banner or should they put it two inches down under the AdSense ad? I've seen people take six months to put up a web site that should have been completed in 30 days.
Design a layout that looks professional and then worry about fine tuning with some split testing down the road.
And then there are those folks who can't decide on what product they're going to sell.
They could have two perfectly good products...
either one being a viable candidate...
and they end up nit picking down to which product has the prettier ecover or which one has an author name that sounds better.
By the time the person decides on which product to sell, the product ends up getting pulled from the marketplace because it's obsolete.
Okay, maybe the above is an exaggeration, but I think you get my point.
At some point in time, you need to just get off the pot, make a decision, and get your business off the ground.
This is one of the main reasons why people fail...
not being able to pull the trigger because of nit picky things.
So don't be a nit pick.
Make a decision, take action, and watch the money come in.
