How to Remove Mildew From Teak
- 1). Set the power washer to 1,200 or 1,600 psi. Hose the mildewed surface with the power washer, moving the stream of water back and forth over the wood surface. Continue washing the teak wood until the dark mildew disappears and you see only the light teak color of the wood remaining.
- 2). Mix one part chlorine bleach with two or four parts water -- the strength depending on the severity of the mildew. Apply the diluted bleach to the mildewed teak with the scrub brush, scrubbing against the grain of the wood. If you scrub with the teak wood grain, you may damage the teak by opening the grain. Rinse off the bleach water with the hose.
- 3). Dry the teak well with an old towel after cleaning it.
- 4). Apply teak oil to the wood using a 2-inch paintbrush. Use long brushstrokes with the wood grain to apply the oil in a thin and even layer. Allow the oil to dry for the time recommended on the product label.
