How to Install XP on a Hard Drive and Put it Into Another Computer
- 1). Insert the XP CD into the computer. Restart the PC and press any key to boot from CD.
- 2). Press "Enter" and "F8" to move to the installation screen.
- 3). Press "Esc" and follow onscreen instructions to install XP to the hard drive.
- 4). Shut down the computer. Remove the case screws and remove the side panel.
- 5). Unscrew the hard drive from the case and disconnect the power and data cables from the back of the drive.
- 6). Insert the drive into the new computer, screw it into place, and connect a power lead and an IDE or SATA cable (depending on your drive type) from within the case.
- 7). Insert the XP CD into the new computer and start it. Press any key to boot from CD.
- 8). Press "Enter" and "F8" to move to the installation screen. Highlight the letter of the drive containing XP, and press "R" to repair it, syncing it with the new computer's hardware.
