How to Clean Carpet Glue Out of Tile

    • 1). Scrape away the top layer of adhesive from the tile, using a paint scraper or razor blade. Be careful to only scrape off the top layer and not go too low. If you scrape the bottom of the glue away from the tile, you may damage or scratch the tile.

    • 2). Apply a small dab of adhesive remover to the glue spot. Let the liquid sit on the spot for at least 10 minutes to soften the carpet glue.

    • 3). Wipe the tile with paper towels and the old glue should slide off. You may need to reapply the adhesive remover several times to reach all layers of the glue and fully remove it.

    • 4). Soak a paper towel in mineral spirits and place the paper towel over the glue. The mineral spirits soften the glue without damaging the tile, allowing you to wipe away the old glue.

    • 5). Use rubbing alcohol on a paper towel to remove the carpet glue. Saturate the glue with the rubbing alcohol and wipe it away after five to 10 minutes.
