How to Instructions for a Cress Kiln FTX23
- 1). Place the kiln on a cement or tile floor, far from anything flammable and at least 18 inches from any vertical surface.
- 2). Plug the kiln into a 220-volt outlet. Although the FTX23 is a small kiln, it still uses a lot of electricity. Some homes with older wiring may not be able to handle the extra load.
- 3). Raise the lid, and lock it in the open position.
- 4). Load the kiln with unfired ceramic or glass pieces. Place a pyrometric cone for the maximum desired temperature 2 to 3 inches behind the peepholes. Close the lid.
- 5). Set the desired time on the Kiln Sitter feature, and set the plunger. Set the thumbwheel on the kiln to the "1" position.
- 6). Set the Firemate speed control to the desired setting, depending on what you are firing. "A" is the fastest speed, for items made in molds that need the least firing time. "E" is the slowest speed, for handmade pieces.
- 7). Check on the pyrometric cone every so often. When it bends, shut off the kiln and turn the speed to "Stop."
- 8). Wait for the kiln to cool, and open the lid to remove your fired pieces.
