Does Your Teen Have School Anxiety?

Anxiety is a completely gripping reality, and it does not only affect adults in stressful work places.
In truth, it also happens to children at school as well.
The environment, the people at school and even parents themselves can cause anxiety, which make our kids feel negative about themselves.
Of course, with that being said, it is quite obvious that we need to find solutions to their anxiety problems - and medical intervention is certainly not the answer.
There are numerous natural anxiety treatments and methods which we can use to help our children overcome their anxieties at school - whether they be social phobias, test or performance anxieties.
First, let us take a look at these external factors that can cause anxiety to kids and what some natural anxiety relief methods that you can do:
  1. Parents sometimes believe that most of their expectations are appropriate.
    They believe that their children are intelligent, thus they want and expect them to use their talents to their full potential.
    However, what most parents fail to realize is that living up to their expectations also has something to do with emotional maturity.
    Children who are smart does not automatically make them organized, disciplined and motivated people.
    Thus, smart kids may find numerous situations frustrating, especially if they know that their parents expect too much from them.
    What is sometimes wrong with parents is that they push their children way too hard or too fast, and this is in fact counterproductive to their development.
    Children develop at their own rates, so as much as possible, try to be age appropriate when it comes to your expectations with your children.
  2. Children and teens have a huge tendency to compare themselves to the people surrounding them.
    Kids can compare themselves academically and socially with their peers.
    Too much comparison can turn into anxiety.
    The best way to battle this and naturally relieve anxiety is to encourage positive self - talk.
    Teach your children to encourage themselves whenever they fail or make mistakes.
    You, as a parent, should also practice positive self talk as well.
    Never judge them outright as verbal scouring will only lead to frustration, depression and more anxiety.
  3. Children Have Emotions as well.
    Sadly, most of them fail to develop awareness of these internal emotions, especially negative ones like sadness, disappointment, fear and the like.
    They usually end up burying or suppressing these emotions.
    After time, these buried emotions are most likely to resurface as anxiety or depression.
    Teach your children the importance of self - awareness by discussing to them these negative emotions.
    Teach them to identify these emotions and how to express them in ways that are healthy as well.
    The more kids let their feelings out in positive ways (through writing, talking, drawing and the like), the less likely they are to harbor negative emotions.
As parents, we have the tendency to take things into our own hands, but these can add to our children's anxiety.
If you think that your child is in an anxiety inducing situation, then let him try to work things out first.
If you feel that things are going over the line, however, then that's the time that you should intervene.
Teaching them the values of self - importance and self awareness, and lowering your expectations are all helpful ways to help your children overcome anxiety.
Of course, don't forget to let them know that you're there for them as well.
