Having a successful relationship requires hard work, trust me on this one! Balancing the stress of everyday life while trying to maintain a healthy relationship can really wear you down fast. It is impossible to change someone else, but here are some tips to help better yourself which will in turn help strengthen you relationship.

Avoid Selfishness

Even if your day has been terrible and you just want to tell your significant other all about it, wait before you do. Allow your partner the opportunity to tell you about their day first, by doing so it shows that you are in tune with your significant other and that you are willing to put their needs ahead of yours. It is such a small gesture but it can work wonders within your relationship.

A Support System

In your relationship, are you the backbone all the time? Are you relied upon heavily to get things done? If you are, then maybe its time to reevaluate your situation; remember it takes two to be in a successful relationship. Each one of us has our own strengths and weaknesses, our significant others should be able to support us where we are weak and vice-versa. If you find yourself emotionally exhausted in your relationship, it is probably because you are sole support system for that relationship and that is not healthy.

Be Appreciative

There is nothing more upsetting than a person that does not appreciate what has been or is being done for them. If your partner overlooks his or her own needs in order to cater to yours, the least thing you can do is to show them that you are thankful. A simple smile, a thank you, a hug or a kiss is just enough to make your partner feel valued and appreciated.  Taking your partner for granted is a sure way to end up alone.

I'm Sorry

If the word's I'm Sorry are too big to come out of your mouth when you are wrong, then the words I Love You should be too big as well. If you can't admit that you are wrong and apologize, then you really don't love your partner. Saying I'm sorry, sends a message to your partner that their feelings are important and that you did not mean to hurt them.

Be there

If you are in a committed relationship with someone that is equally committed, know for a fact that it requires a lot of time, energy, patients, trust and understanding. You have to make sacrifices sometimes in order to accommodate your partner. Being there for your partner physically, emotionally and spiritually will put your relationship on the right path towards success.

Friends

Your partner has to be your friend; if you can't get along with your significant other then your relationship is not meant to be. Your friendship with your partner will be different than any other friend that you have because it is deep and intimate. You should be able to tell you significant other your inner most feelings and trust that those words will stay between you two.

Leave the Past Behind

Let's say your previous partner was not a good one to say the least, that does not mean that your new partner is the same way. Going into a new relationship still harboring ill feelings from previous ones is a sure fire way to make your current partner feel as if the relationship is a waste of his or her time.
