How to Get Over a Guy You're in Love With
- 1). Focus on his shortcomings. While this may not be something that comes naturally to you, the guy you are in love with is only human and cannot give you your identity. Focus on things about him that bother you. Does he have an annoying habit or quirk? Is he inconsiderate or crass? Could you actually see yourself in a serious relationship with him? Focusing on the qualities about your crush that are not perfect will help you get over him.
- 2). Focus on your appealing traits. As you concentrate on the things about the guy you are in love with that are less than ideal, do the opposite for yourself. Paying attention to what makes you special will give you the boost of confidence you need to help you forget someone who does not return your feelings. If you love someone who does not love you back, you likely need this confidence to make you realize who is worth thinking about and who is not.
- 3). Distract yourself in different ways. This is simple but effective when it comes to getting your mind off of someone who does not love you back. There are several things you can do, such as reading an interesting book, trying extra hard in school or at work or participating at your church. Keeping yourself busy and always being involved in something will help clear your mind and keep your thoughts positive.
- 4). Avoid places where you may run into him. Deliberately going out of your way to not see the guy you have feelings for is doing yourself a favor. It may be tempting to purposely get in his way, but these encounters do nothing for your attempt at independence. The next time you have the desire to go someplace where he may be, remind yourself of your own value as a person and your ultimate goal: to get over this guy you're in love with.
