How to Draw a Cartoon Person Quick & Easy

    The Skeleton

    • 1). Draw a small round or oval shape, near the top of your page, to act as the basis for your character's head. Draw a faint line straight down your page directly under the circle. This will act as a marker to keep your character's body in the center.

    • 2). Just below the head, draw a slightly larger circle (for a fat character) or rectangle (for a slimmer character) to act as the body. At the top right and top left of the body, draw two small circles to act as shoulders and lines coming off the shoulders as guides for where the arms will go.

    • 3). At the bottom left and bottom right of the body, draw two lines going down to act as leg guides. Halfway down these lines draw small circles again to act as knees. The size of the head, the body and all the other lines are entirely up to you.

    Building the Body

    • 1). Go back to the face. Draw one line vertically down the middle of the face and one line horizontally across the middle of the face. To the left and right of the vertical line, draw circles for eyes. Make sure the circles rest on the horizontal line.

    • 2). Draw a nose and mouth below the eyes on the vertical line. Draw an ear at each side of the head where the horizontal line touches the sides. Have some fun experimenting with different sizes of eyes or ears and even add some crazy hair at the top of the head.

    • 3). Draw a neck following the line you put down as a guide. Do this by drawing a tube connecting the head to the body with lines on either side of the guide line.

    • 4). Build up the arms and legs by drawing tube shapes around the guide lines you drew earlier. Add details like hands and feet, which can be basic shapes like circles or more detailed with fingers and toes.

    • 5). Draw a costume for your cartoon person. Draw anything you want, maybe an alien spacesuit.

    Details and Color

    • 1). Draw some details such as a badge on the costume or some tattoo markings on the face. Don't go over the top with details; just add some subtle ones like dots for facial hair or lines and bumps for scars and warts.

    • 2). Grab your pen and draw on top of the pencil lines you want to keep. Use your eraser to get rid of any extra pencil lines. Although pen ink dries fast, give it a couple of extra seconds before erasing pencil lines nearby because smudges can occur. You should be left with a clean pen line drawing.

    • 3). Get your felt-tip pens or crayons and color in your creation to complete it.
