There are 13 essential vitamins that the body must have to conduct the everyday functions of life. They include two classifications of vitamins --- water soluble and fat soluble. The water soluble vitamins are the B group of vitamins as well as vitamin C. Fat soluble vitamins includes vitamins A, D, E and K.

    Whole Health

    • All vitamins work in the body by assisting with the everyday maintenance and repairs that the body must go through to keep up in life. Some of these functions include the development of healthy eyesight and the ability to see at night, muscle development and nourishing the skin.

    Soluble Solutions

    • All vitamins have a different function. However, much of how they are processed by the body depends on their chemical makeup. For example, water soluble vitamins such as B2 (riboflavin), is easily lost through sweat and urine. Therefore, it must be replenished more frequently than its fat soluble counterparts. Fat soluble vitamins take much longer to break down and therefore remain in the body for longer periods of time.
