    Light Tarnish

    • 1). Combine a few drops of dish soap with water, advises Good Housekeeping. Wet a soft cloth with this mixture.

    • 2). Rub the jewelry with the cloth. Rinse the jewelry in some cool water.

    • 3). Dry the jewelry with a soft cloth cotton or dish towel.

    Heavy Tarnish

    • 1). Make a solution of 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water. Dampen the silver with water. Rub the solution on the piece of jewelry with a lint-free cloth. Avoid using paper towels to apply the baking soda mixture. This may scratch the jewelry.

    • 2). Manipulate the baking soda mixture into any crevices in the jewelry. When the cloth turns gray on one side, rub the jewelry with the other side.

    • 3). Rinse the jewelry with cool water. Rub with a soft cloth until dry.
