How to Make a Ribbon Wand for a Dance
- 1). Cut a 1/2-inch dowel down to a length of 12 inches using a saw.
- 2). Sand the dowel using 100-grit sandpaper.
- 3). Paint the dowel using acrylic paint and a paintbrush. While this is optional, it gives the ribbon wand a finished look.
- 4). Cut a length of 2-inch ribbon that is between 3 and 5 feet long using a pair of scissors.
- 5). Apply a 2-inch line of hot glue to the top of the dowel.
- 6). Place one edge of the ribbon along the hot glue, allowing the ribbon to stretch out perpendicular to the dowel.
- 7). Wrap the ribbon around the dowel, gluing it down as you go.
- 8). Light a candle with a match.
- 9). Heat the free edge of the ribbon in a candle, singeing the end without allowing the candle to burn. This prevents the ribbon from fraying.
