How to Find Gold in a River
- 1). Get the proper equipment.
You'll need gold pans or a panning kit, a sluice box, and some screens to get started. If your budget is limited, this really isn't the right hobby for you. It gets very costly, and you probably won't see a huge return on your investment. - 2). Learn the techniques.
There are plenty of experienced gold prospectors out there who are more than willing to impart of their experience. Check the yellow pages for workshops, demonstrations, tours, and mentors. You may be able to find a willing mentor who won't charge you to tag along on a few excursions. - 3). Select your site.
There are only a few mining areas that are open to the public. They are extremely overworked and have been for decades. You can't just go to any river and start panning for gold. You need to purchase a claim if you want to venture outside of the community areas. Again, not a great get rich quick scheme.
