First the main one that every one seems to talk about is communication.
You have to talk to each other and be completely honest at the same time.
I know that in this day and age where everyone is busy rushing around it can be difficult to make the time to just sit down and talk.
But it is necessary to keep your relationship strong.
"My wife/husband/partner just doesn't understand me" how many times have you heard this from friends, workmates or when you are on a night out with your friends? I know I have heard it a lot.
Do you think that these people are communicating with their partners? I doubt it very much do you? So the next time that you hear that one the easiest way to stop them dead in their tracks is to ask them if they have actually talked to their partner! "Honesty is the best policy" while communicating in a loving relationship you need to consider the other person to some extent.
But on the whole there is no where that this old saying is more true than in a relationship.
If you are feeling that you are being neglected or that you are feeling that there is a problem within the relationship then you need to talk about it.
Get it out in the open.
All too often people hold their feelings inside them and this often builds over time and ends up being a part of a major row or falling out of some kind.
Making the time for each other and for yourself should be a major priority for everyone whether you are in a long term relationship or just starting out.
The hustle and bustle of modern living can make it very difficult to find the time but you should.
Even if it is only 10 mins to sit and talk although more is obviously better.
Turn off distractions like the TV etc..
Put the kids to bed.
This you will find make you both stronger and more confident in each other.
Years ago this would have happened probably over the dinner table, but nowadays people don't seem to sit down and enjoy a meal together anymore.
Make time for activities together.
Ensure that you do as much together as you time allows this will help to bring you closer together and bond more over time.
It is also a great time to do some of that talking.
It can be as simple as taking a evening walk out or as complex as sharing a hobby.
