How to Age Paper With Tea
Instructions
1Boil water for tea. You can prepare the teas that you want to use as coloring. Red and black tea will work well for darker coloration and white and green will make a lighter coloring. Variation of the darkness of the tea will vary depending on whether you are using one or two tea bags.
2
Allow the tea to cool to room temperature. While the tea is cooling, select the paper that you want to use for your craft. The paper can be plain copy paper, cotton bond or even card stock. The staining of each of these will take a slightly different method but is basically the same.
3
Use a sponge or paint brush to dab the tea over the surface of the paper. Take care not to get the paper too wet as it will likely warp during the drying process. Place the wet paper on a cookie sheet and place in a warm oven to dry. If the sheet is too light then you can put a second coat on the paper and dry again. You will need to experiment with teas that you have prepared to get a feel for the darkness of coloring given by each tea and strength.
4
Take a piece of paper and use it as a canvas for a picture. The paint will be the various teas and strengths. Flowers are always a good choice as they will appear faint and will be a nice background for the paper. You can use this method to make a personalized stationary.
