Decorating Ideas With Color Magic

    Mirrors

    • Because most glass paints require oven heat to dry and harden completely, it can be difficult to decorate larger objects such as mirrors with them. Color Magic stains air dry, so large pieces are within the creative boundaries of the product.
When deciding how to decorate your mirror, think about the shape of the piece and the room it is intended to be in. If the mirror is square or rectangular, you may consider emphasizing the corners or the frame with scrolling or swirling flourishes. For a modern or edgy look, use an asymmetrical design that covers a random portion of the mirror. In any case, use colors that complement the rest of the decor in the room.
Lay the mirror flat on a table or other work surface, and make sure that it is thoroughly clean and free of dust before beginning. If you are comfortable using the brushes provided with the stains, feel free to use them. However, it may be prudent to have a few extra brushes around for detail work or broad strokes.

    Metal Sculptures

    • Color Magic stains are also good for giving a colorful enameled look to metal pieces. A small pewter figurine is a perfect canvas for this application of the stains. As always, make sure the piece is clean before painting on it. If the sculpture is a realistic depiction of an object or scene, you may want to use the stains to colorize it in a realistic fashion. However, if you want a more stylized look, you might choose to stain one portion of the piece. For instance, if the sculpture was of a girl holding a flower, choosing to colorize only the flower will bring focus and emphasis to that portion of the piece. For a sculpture that does not have realistic subject matter, use your imagination.

    Glass

    • A plain glass vase or votive candle holder can be easily dressed up with a touch of Color Magic. Paint a set of votives for your home, or give it as a thoughtful handmade gift. Use polka dots evenly placed around the glass for a fun, yet classic look. Painting interlocking squares at random intervals on the surface of the glass can provide a linear and interesting design.
Hoevel Manufacturing's crafting website recommends that products painted with Color Magic stains can be dried more quickly if placed in a 200 degree oven for about 45 minutes. Because vases or votives are small enough to place in your oven, this may be a good way to harden the stain quickly and efficiently if you do not have enough time to wait for it to dry overnight.
