    • 1). Locate the folder containing information that you would like to share on the network.

    • 2). Right-click on the folder and then click "Sharing and Security" in the menu that appears.

    • 3). Click the "Make this folder private" check box in order to clear the box.

    • 4). Click the "Share this folder on the network" check box and confirm that there is a check mark in the box.

    • 5). Click the "Allow network users to change my files" check box to enable read and write access to the files. If you wish to configure read-only permissions, click to clear the "Allow network users to change my files" box.

    • 6). Click the "Start" button, then click "Control Panel" and click "User Accounts." Click "Create a new user account."

    • 7). Type the exact name of a user account that is configured on a computer that will be used to access the computer over the network, then select the account type (Administrator not recommended) and click "Create Account."

    • 8). Click the "Change an Account" link, then click the account you just created. Click Create/change the password," then type in a password for the account and press the "Enter" key.

    • 9). Click "Start" and then the "Run" or "Search" box on the computer for which the new user account was created in order to access the file share. Type "\\computername\share" in the "Run" or "Search" box, replacing "\\computername\share" with the actual computer name and network share name you wish to access over the network. Press the "Enter" key.

      Confirm access to the files in the network share by double-clicking on a file to open it and perform read or read and write operations according to the permissions configured earlier.
