How to Remove Paper Mache Stains From Clothes
- 1). Moisten the clothing with a damp sponge to loosen any solid bits of paper mache stuck to your clothing. Dab at the stains to avoid spreading the glue and ink further. Carefully peel off the paper and discard.
- 2). Soak your clothing to remove ink stains that transferred from newsprint or crepe paper to your garments. If the stains or ink is red, combine 1 tbsp. of white vinegar and 1 qt. of warm water and immerse your washable clothing for at least half an hour. Soak permanent marker stains of any color using 1 to 4 tbsp. of ammonia per quart of water, which can also loosen glue stains. Non-permanent ink stains that are not red do not require soaking.
- 3). Spray the paper mache stains with a laundry stain remover and let the cleanser sit on the material for 30 minutes. The glue component of paper mache is classified as a protein; enzyme-based pretreatments are most effective in breaking up the protein.
- 4). Wash your clothing in the warmest setting possible according to the care tag. Hang to dry.
- 5). Blot remaining stains with dry cleaning solvent and a paper towel. The ink may come off immediately; you might need to re-wash the garment in order to remove glue and other adhesives.
