Stands for Woodworking Tools

It is very easy to leave woodworking tools lying around---a sure way of losing them. Fortunately most woodworkers are extremely tidy---that's something that goes with the craft. Stands can be either made or purchased for just about any type of woodworking tool, from the humble drill bit up to the more involved pieces of woodworking machinery such as the miter saw. - Drill bits can be stored in a drilled wooden block.Bits image by Ewe Degiampietro from Fotolia.com
Small tools such as drill bits are the easiest tools to leave lying around, and are the easiest tools to make stands for too. Use a block of 2-by-4 about 2 feet long, and drill holes into it (you can use the actual drill bits to do this). Store the appropriate drill bits in the hole made by that particular drill bit. Mark the holes with the size of the bit it carries. This type of stand can be used for Brad Point Bits, Auger Bits, Forstner Bits, Masonry Bits and even Router Bits. - Store chisels in sprung clips on a wallboardtool bench image by Greg Pickens from Fotolia.com
Medium-sized woodworking tools, such as screwdrivers, wrenches, chisels and rules, are easy to make a stand for. Attach a piece of 3/4-inch plywood measuring 5 feet by 2 feet flat against a wall using nails in anchors. Wrenches can be suspended from a row of 2-inch pins driven into the board---mark the board with the size of wrench for easy location. Pairs of pins will support screwdrivers in a similar manner. To support chisel, screw a row of sprung clips onto the board---you can find these at any hardware store. - Larger tools such as miter saws and hand-held circular saws need larger and more involved stands. The more imaginative woodworker will probably be able to design such stands himself, but if you are not inspired in such a direction there are many websites that you can visit that offer free plans for such occasions.
