How to Access a Computer Using Telnet
- 1). Open the Telnet client up on your Windows-based PC. Click the "Start" button and then type the word "telnet" in the search box. Click on the "OK" button. According to the Windows website, the computer will start searching for your Telnet program.
- 2). Open the connection by clicking on "File," "Connect." According to the Windows Telnet information at the Windows website, you then type in the destination that you would like to go to. An example of this is "mudpuddle.shwaine.com." Then type in the port number that will allow you to access the remote computer. An example of a port number would be "3000."
- 3). Type the command to connect to the computer. Some remote computers will allow you to access them as a guest. If this is the case with the computer you want to access, type in the word "Guest" with the password "Guest." That should allow you to access the computer you wish to Telnet to.
- 4). Save your information in the Telnet program by typing "Save." Leave the application by typing "Quit" or "Exit."

- 2). Click "File," "Open Connection."
- 3). Type in the computer destination that you would like to connect to, such as "mudpuddle.shwaine.com" and the port number "3000." According to the Telnet Basic Manual site, this will let you connect to the computer once you click the "Connect" button.
- 4). Save your Telnet session by typing "Save." Close the Telnet session by typing "Quit" or "Exit."
