Hot glue guns are sold in both hot and cool-melt varieties. The difference between the hot and cool-melt glue guns is simply the temperature at which the glue will melt. Both types of glue guns are commonly used to make crafts. Hot glue guns have other uses besides making crafts. - Many toys on the market today are made from plastic. A hot glue gun can be used to fuse plastic together. Parts that have broken or fallen off a toy can easily be reattached using either hot or low-temp glue sticks. The parts are reattached and left to sit a few minutes prior to giving the toy back to the child.
- Loose table legs, spindles, veneer and other small items on furniture can be fixed with the use of a hot glue gun. Apply hot glue in the joints around the table legs and spindles to fill the void area. This makes the joint stronger. Veneer on the edges of furniture loosen and pull from the edges away from the wood item. Place a thin strip of hot glue behind the veneer and push it into place to secure it to the surface.
Wood or press-board furniture that needs to be put together once purchased can have issues with the joints not being solid enough. Place hot glue in the holes prior to connection to make the furniture item more stable. Hot glue can also be put around the joint areas after the piece has been assembled. - Tennis shoes and sandals separate at the toe end from dragging them on the ground or simply from wear and tear. Salvage a good shoe that has been separated from the sole with a hot glue gun. Run hot glue along the edge of the sole and push the layers back together. This type of gluing works the best if the sole has some voids on the interior layer. Place weight on the area to help the glue adhere. Let the glue set a good 15 minutes before wearing.
- Plastic wall molding can be reattached to surface area using a hot glue gun. Apply hot glue in a zigzag pattern on the back of the molding. Immediately push the molding onto the appropriate area. Hold the plastic molding in place for approximately a minute to make sure it stick. Other plastic items such as towel bars, scroll work, picture frames, and so on can be fixed using a hot glue gun.
