How to Winterize Your Nitro Car

    • 1). Use an alloy body, instead of a standard plastic body. Cold weather can make the plastic freeze and become brittle, potentially causing it to shatter if you crash.

    • 2). Use a thinner motor oil. Cold weather makes the oil run thicker, and using a thinner oil will allow your engine to keep running in the cold.

    • 3). Store your vehicle in a warm environment before starting. As the engine cools, it can become slow moving or stop altogether, however if started shortly after being in a warm place, it can keep itself warm and functional.

    • 4). Use a hand-held heat device, such as a hair dryer, to apply heat directly on the engine if it is too cold to start.

    • 5). Seal off any ventilation openings in the body with electrical tape. Unlike in warm weather when venting is important, in the winter you want to keep as much heat as possible within the body of the car.

    • 6). Use a 5-cell pack RC battery, instead of a factory default, as they are better suited to cold performance.

    • 7). Spray all the metal surfaces of the car with WD-40 lubricating oil before taking the car out if snow has fallen, to prevent the buildup of melted snow, which can lead to rust.

    • 8). Seal off any electrical parts in the underside of the car with electrical tape before taking the car out if snow has fallen, to prevent melted snow from damaging the electrical parts.
