Even if you can't believe it right now, just know that persons in much worse situations have healed their romantic relationships.
Bottom line: you almost surely have reason to hope.
Almost everyone knows couples that have reunited when it seemed impossible.
Consider the fact that many of those breakups occurred because of terrible choices on that part of one or both partners.
What this means is simply this: couples with far worse problems than you have gotten back together.
What's more, ex-couples with problems identical to yours, or nearly so, have made up and lived happily every after.
So you have reason to hope.
This is not to say that all relationships should be saved.
Abusive relationships come to mind.
Any situation that is unsafe, physically or emotionally, is not worth the effort to reunite.
The risk is simply too great.
You may love the other person, but realize that it is time to move on.
But those are extreme circumstances.

Just know your feelings are not always your best friend and sometimes it indeed is better not to seek reconciliation.
