How to Take Citrus Pectin
- 1). Consult your doctor. Depending on your medical history and current prescription medications, your doctor will make an educated decision on whether it is safe for you to take citrus pectin.
- 2). Take modified citrus pectin powder as a dietary supplement with meals. Dissolve 5 g (or 1/5 oz.) of citrus pectin powder in a glass of water or juice. Drink the mixture three times a day with meals.
- 3). Take citrus pectin as a capsule. Take an 800 mg citrus pectin capsule three times a day with a meal and a full glass of water for best results.
- 4). Eat foods containing citrus pectin, including oranges, tangerines, lemons, grapefruits and orange or lemon marmalade. Foods containing citrus zest or rind have the most citrus pectin.
- 5). Monitor your side effects. Side effects of citrus pectin supplements include nausea, constipation, stomach ache and abdominal pain. If you are suffering any of these side effects, talk to your doctor.
