How to Make a Fabric iPod Case
- 1). Place your iPod face down on a piece of paper. Trace around the iPod with a pencil. Angle your pencil to get as close as possible to the iPod.
- 2). Measure 1/2 inch out to the side of your tracing with your ruler. Mark a couple of dots on each side. Connect the dots when you are done with a ruler and your pencil.
- 3). Use the ruler to draw a smaller rectangle on the paper for the closure tab. You will need to make sure that the width is three-quarters of the width of the iPod. Take into consideration that you will need to add 1/4 inch for a seam allowance. The rectangle will need to be long enough to flap over the case to close.
- 4). Cut out your pattern. Use the case pattern to cut two pieces from the exterior fabric, two pieces from the lining pieces and two pieces of interfacing. Cut two tab pieces from the exterior fabric and two tab pieces from the interfacing.
- 5). Iron the interfacing onto the interior fabric pieces using the instructions on the interfacing packaging. Iron the interfacing to the tab pieces.
- 6). Sew the fuzzy side of the Velcro square onto the middle of the bottom of a piece of the tab.
- 7). Match the tab pieces up with the right sides together and pin. Sew around the two sides and the top. Leave the bottom open.
- 8). Trim the excess fabric around the outside of the tab stitching. Flip it right side out. Press the seams flat. Top stitch around the top and the two sides to finish it off nicely.
- 9). Sew the other piece of the Velcro square to the center of the top of one of the pieces of exterior fabric. It should be about 1 inch from the edge of the fabric. Place the two exterior pieces right sides together. Sew around both sides and the end that doesn't have the Velcro square. Trim the excess fabric.
- 10
Place the two lining pieces right sides together. Sew around both sides and one of the ends. Leave a 2 1/2-inch opening in the middle of the end that you sew so you can flip it. Trim the excess fabric. - 11
You will have two pockets now, an interior and an exterior. - 12
Flip the interior pocket right side out. Place it inside the exterior pocket so the right sides of the fabric are together. Slip the tab in between the two pockets at the back with the Velcro square facing the interior pocket. The Velcro square on the exterior pocket should be on the opposite side of where you put the tab. Pin together. - 13
Sew around the opening of the pockets as they are pinned together. Remove the pins. - 14
Pull the interior pocket out from the exterior. Reach into the bottom of the interior pocket where you left the open hole. Grab the other pocket and pull it through the hole in the interior pocket. - 15
Stitch the opening closed. Use a pencil to stuff the interior pocket inside the exterior pocket. - 16
Pull your tab across the case and Velcro closed.
