DIY Cell Phone Charms
- If you want to make your charm from scratch, the most common ways are to make them from polymer clay, beads or foam. These are quite simple to make and instead of spending a couple dollars for a charm, you can make several at a time for under $10.
- To make a polymer clay charm you'll need clay, craving knives and glaze. Figure out a design you'd like to make, like a cupcake or a football, and mold it out of the clay. Using an X-Acto blade will make this easier. Be creative. When you're done, let your piece dry, glaze the clay with clear glaze, and bake it for the time and temperature recommended on the clay packaging. When the piece is done baking, you can use acrylic paint to add a few personal touches.
To make a beaded charm you'll need a 2-inch or longer headpin, a large bead, a few small beads, decorative spacing beads, wire cutters and round-nose pliers. Begin by laying out your prospective design so you have an idea of what it will look like. Place your beads in the final order on the headpin and make a loop at the top with your pliers. Cut off the excess wire. By opening up the loop, you can attach the charm to the cell phone charm strap.
Making a foam charm is easy. Using different colors of foam, cut out various shapes and glue them together. For example, if you want to make a pig, use light pink, dark pink and black pieces of foam. Cut out a light pink oval for a body and four feet, a small dark pink oval for the nose, a curly tail, and two triangles for ears, and black for the hooves, nostrils and eyes. Glue them together and punch a hole in the top to attach it to your phone.
