How to Make Handmade Fabric Flowers

    • 1). Cut your cotton fabric into a strip of the desired length and width. The size of your finished strip determines the size of your finished flower, so a longer, wider strip will result in a bigger, fuller flower.

    • 2). Fold your fabric strip in half so the wrong or back sides of your fabric are together. Iron to hold in place.

    • 3). Cut a long piece of thread and thread your needle.

    • 4). Sew a loose running stitch by running your needle in and out of your fabric strip, stopping when you reach the end of the strip.

    • 5). Gather your fabric strip by pulling gently, but tightly on the thread. Your fabric should bunch naturally into a flower-like shape. If it does not, try pulling the thread tighter, or adjusting the strip by hand until it is your desired shape.

    • 6). Turn over to the wrong side and secure the flower by sewing in and out of the strip's gathered layers.

    • 7). Attach the fabric flower to a brooch pin by sewing back and forth several times through the holes on the pin until the flower is secure. You can find brooch pins at most craft stores. Now you can pin the flower onto any piece of clothing, and easily switch it out when you're ready for a new look.
