How to Get Rid of Gas Odor
- 1). Find out where the odor in your car originates. Gas odors can be caused by spills, but may also be indicative of mechanical problems.
- 2). Wash the spill spot with carpet shampoo and clean water. Depending on the severity of the spill, this may be enough to get rid of the odor.
- 3). Pour baking soda over the spill and leave it in your car overnight. The next morning, scrub the gas spill thoroughly and vacuum up the baking soda.
- 4). Vent your car. Leave one of its doors open, for at least 24 hours. Be sure to do this in a safe environment like a locked garage.
- 5). Place coffee grounds over the spill and leave them there for a few days. Coffee will naturally absorb the odor and will not stain the carpet, as long as it stays dry.
