How to Remove Applications From the Task Bar
- 1). Check the icon. Do not delete an icon that is an actual application and not just a shortcut to it. Check this by right-clicking on the icon in the taskbar and clicking "Properties." In this window, in the "General" tab, if it says the type of file is a shortcut, then it's OK to remove it.
- 2). Remove it. If all you want to do is move the icon from the taskbar to another location, such as the desktop, then that is possible; you do not have to delete it to get it off of your taskbar. To move it, open a window with the location you want to move it to--if you're not moving it to your desktop--and then right-click and drag the icon from the taskbar to the new location. When you release the right mouse button, click "Move Here" from the menu that appears.
- 3). Delete it. If you want to completely get rid of the icon, then you can do one of two things. You may either right-click on it and click "Delete" in the menu that appears, or you may right-click and drag the icon from the taskbar to the "Recycle Bin." Either way, the icon will end up in the Recycle Bin.
