How to Stop Rugs Moving on Carpet
- 1). Flip the rug upside down.
- 2). Place 1-inch strips of double-sided cloth carpet tape spread out every 6 inches on the rug. Only use cloth tape. Cloth tape is safe for carpets and will not pull or ruin the pile when the rug needs to be removed. Double-sided cloth carpet tape uses a stronger adhesive than regular double-sided cloth tape to help the rug to adhere to the carpet.
- 3). Flip the rug over. Press firmly on the carpet to hold in place.
- 1). Select an non-slip rug pad that is 1/2 inch wider and larger than the rug. If the rug pad is smaller than the rug, the carpet will continue to bunch up and move.
- 2). Lay the rug pad flat on the carpet.
- 3). Place the rug over the rug pad. Pull the rug firmly so it covers the rug pad. A small bit of rug pad should be slightly visible. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about it, as the pad needs to be slightly larger than the rug.
