Here are the steps you need to take in order to pursue that dream and get a PPL licence.
First of all if you want a private pilot license you need to get a medical certificate from an FAA authorized medical aviation examiner.
You want to be sure to get this before you pay any money towards lessons which won't do you any good if the examiner discovers some health problem which makes you unfit to be a pilot.
Next, you will need to prepare for the three examinations you must pass in order to get a PPL licence.
The first one is a written test.
Most people study for this test by going to ground school.
The Federal Aviation Administration's regulations actually allow a home study course as well.
You may be able to do a combination of both and supplement it with practice test software to fine tune your skills.
Software that provides you with feedback is a great way to discover areas where you are still weak.
The second test is an oral test given by the FAA authorized examiner who will also fly with you for the third test which is the flight exam.
The only way to prepare for the flight test is to practice flying.
The requirements for obtaining a PPL licence include a minimum of 40 flight hours.
Twenty of those hours must be with a FAA authorized flight instructor.
Ten of your flight hours must be logged in solo flights.
