How to Convert the Flash App for an iPhone
- 1). Go to Apple's iPhone developer's site and sign up as a registered iPhone developer, and then apply for and purchase an iPhone Developer Certificate. This process is somewhat involved. You will receive emails from Apple during the process advising you of your progress and providing you instructions for the various steps. At the end of the process, Apple will provide you with a Developer Certificate and Provisioning Profile. Follow Apples instructions for downloading them and saving them on your computer. Note that you will need an Apple mobile device and iTunes installed on your computer to complete this process.
- 2). Open the Flash movie FLA file you want to convert to iOS format in Flash Professional.
- 3). Click the "File" menu and choose "Publish Settings" to open the Publish Settings dialog box.
- 4). Click the "Flash" tab, and then click the "Player" drop-down menu and select "iPhone OS." Note that the procedure is slightly different in Flash CS5.5. The Publish Settings dialog box is not separated into tabs. Click the "Player" drop-down menu and choose "AIR for iOS." AIR is Adobe's multiplatform Flash application format.
- 5). Click the "Settings" button to open the iPhone iOS Settings dialog box. In Flash CS5.5, the button name is "Publish Settings," and it is displayed as a wrench icon. The CS5.5 dialog box name is AIR for iOS Settings. This dialog box has several options for controlling how the app exports, such as output file name, app name. For most apps you can leave these settings as is, except for the Device option. This drop-down menu lets you choose which Apple handheld you want to publish the app to run on, such as the iPhone, the iPad or both. IiPods use the iPhone setting.
- 6). Select the desired options in the General tab and then click the "Deployment" tab. This displays the options for applying your Developer Certificate and Provisioning Profile, as well as password protecting the file and choosing a deployment type. The deployment types are: "Quick publishing for device testing," Quick publishing for device debugging," and "Deployment -- Apple App Store." Which option you choose depends on your app's stage of development. You shouldn't, for example, deploy to the App Store without testing your app.
- 7). Click the "Browse" button next "Certificate," navigate to where you saved your Developers Certificate, select it and click "Open."
- 8). Click the "Browse" button next "Provisioning Profile," navigate to where you saved your Provisioning Profile, select it and click "Open."
- 9). Type a password in the "Password" field and click "Publish." Flash saves the app with an IPA extension in the same folder as the Flash FLA. You can now test it on your Apple mobile device or upload it to the App Store.
