Next Generation Penguin: Google Penguin 2.0
Google's drive for clean and relevant web search has taken a leap forward with Penguin 2.0 update. On 22nd May, 2013, Matt Cutt on his blog shared the roll-out information and stated that €We started rolling out the next generation of the Penguin web spam algorithm this afternoon (May 22, 2013), and the rollout is now complete. About 2.3% of English-US queries are affected to the degree that a regular user might notice. The change has also finished rolling out for other languages world-wide. The scope of Penguin varies by language, e.g. languages with more web spam will see more impact.€
Previous Penguin Updates:
Penguin 2.0 is the fourth update launched by Google to provide a spam free search result to the users. The list of the updates that has been rolled so far is:
€ Penguin 1 on April 24, 2012 - it is believed that it impacted almost 3.1% of English queries
€ Penguin 2 on May 26, 2012 - it showed impact on less than 0.1% of the search query
€ Penguin 3 on October 5, 2012 - this impacted almost 0.3% of search queries
€ Penguin 4 on May 22, 2013 - it is believed to impact 2.3% of search queries on Google
All the Penguin release impacted the Google search result in small or big way, however, it should be mentioned that the 2nd and 3rd Penguin Update were data refreshes only. It was just to refresh the same basic Penguin algorithm and has minor changes only. But, this 4th release i.e. Penguin 2.0, is a major algorithm change, and will impact much more in comparison to the 2nd and 3rd refresh. The new Penguin is specifically going to target all the spam created using black hat SEO strategies and will significantly impact the web spam on the internet.
Penguin 2.0: Effects and Recovery
According to Matt Cutts, Penguin 2.0, the latest rolled out version of Penguin has been designed to track and penalize those webmasters who use banned or inorganic SEO techniques for achieving rewards for their websites. These tricks are generally termed as Black Hat SEO techniques. The SEO experts, who compromise on the quality and originality of the content and backlinks, will be struck hard with this algo update. However, webmasters who insist on creation of unique and quality content that users naturally relate to and share will be unaffected with the update. The websites that serves the visitors right and the visitors too want to explore and return to these websites will not get affected negatively as well.
If you are a webmaster and feeling the heat of Penguin 2.0 upon your websites, there are few recovery measures that you can opt for. These measures will not only help you recovery from the recent penalties of Penguin 2.0 but also make you a spam free website to avoid any penalties in future:
€ Understand Your Website and plan your Link Profile accordingly
€ Keep a check on your Backlink and the sites that possess them.
€ If you find any unnatural or unrelated links on your site or on any other site pointing towards you, then they may harm your link profile. So, it is better to disavow those harmful links
€ Keep a look on upcoming new and quality sites that can relate to you and increase the reputation of your backlinks. Whenever you find such site, build new and high-quality inbound links on them.
By adopting these measures, you will be successful in making a class-link profile that will provide you all the required benefits of having backlinks.
