    The One-Rune Spread

    • 1). Light a stick of sage and purge the runes with smoke in a sideways motion. If sage is not available, soak the runes in a bowl of sea salt overnight before use. This helps to clear any negative energy. If neither sage nor sea salt is available, a prayer to your power deity for protection and clarity is advisable.

    • 2). Mix runes thoroughly. Perform the rune cast in a quiet room where noise and disruptions are limited. Concentrate on the question or issue being asked. This rune cast is often used to get advice on a specific situation, or a yes or no question.

    • 3). Draw one rune. Pay close attention as to the position that the rune was drawn. Determine if the symbol is upright or reversed. Some runes don't have a reversed meaning as they are the same no matter their direction. Interpret the rune according to its exact position as it was drawn.

    Past, Present and Future Spread

    • 1). Pick three runes from the bag or material used to house the runes. The first rune should be laid down with the symbol facing up. This represents the past position. This rune will cover issues that happened in the past regarding your question.

    • 2). Pick a second rune and lay it in the center, to the left of the first rune. This is the present position. This rune will cover what is happening now, regarding the question asked.

    • 3). Draw the last rune. It should lay face up on the left of the second rune. This is the future position. This rune will point to possible outcomes of the question being asked. Keep in mind nothing is set in stone and the situation can change based on choices made.

    • 4). Close the questioning session by saying a simple prayer of thanks to your power entity. Put the runes away in its bag, or cloth, and place in a special designated area. If you lend your runes, clean them well with sage or salt, and do the same when the runes are returned to you.

    • 5). Record the rune castings in a journal. It will be beneficial in comparing events that have occurred when the runes were cast regarding that particular situation.
