Make homemade wrapping paper to add extra personalization to gifts and possibly save a few bucks. Spend a creative afternoon with your kids making wrapping paper that is almost good enough to frame and hang on the wall. Gift recipients will appreciate the thought that went into packaging their presents and may even save a small piece of the wrapping to remember your child by. - Little handprints are so precious because they show how your children are growing and provide living proof that they touched something. Years later, it is special to look back at the tiny handprints from when they were little. Purchase a large, washable ink pad, big enough for your child's entire hand to fit on it. Unroll blank paper onto a covered surface, and put your child's hand into the ink and then onto the paper. Use her favorite colors or colors corresponding to a certain holiday. Alternately, use metallic markers to trace her hand all over the wrapping paper.
- Even babies can help finger paint wrapping paper for gifts. Unroll large sheets of finger paint paper onto a tarp-covered floor. Squirt a variety of colors of finger paint onto the paper, and let the kids go crazy turning it into designs or simply smearing it vibrantly all over the paper. On a nice day, consider doing this activity outdoors. Remember to dress everyone in old clothes and paint smocks.
- Many little children go through phases where they are in love with stickers and then lose interest later on. Put those dusty sticker collections to use in making wrapping paper. Purchase basic mylar wrapping, and let the kids have fun putting their favorite cartoon characters, smiley faces and more onto the wrapping. If you do not have a sticker collection lying around, consider purchasing bulk stickers from a teacher supply store or looking for good sticker prices at your local dollar store.
- Garage sales, craft stores and warehouse stores are excellent places to find rubber stamps, some of which go on clearance during the off-season. Accumulate a variety of stamps and stamp pads that correspond to certain holidays and special occasions. Spend an afternoon with the kids putting stamped designs onto plain paper. For extra pizazz, add embossing details to some of the stamps, or use a glittery, rainbow-colored stamp pad.
