How to Easily Draw a Face

    • 1). Sketch out a large oval in the middle of your paper to act as the basic guideline for your person's face. Draw the height slightly larger in size than width, using light pencil strokes.

    • 2). Divide the face into four equal sections with a horizontal and vertical line. This will help you create each of the facial features in a proportional, realistic manner.

    • 3). Draw two oval-shaped images along the horizontal guideline to represent the eyes. Position the eyes so they are proportional to each other at this angle, using light pencil strokes until the shapes are as you want them.

    • 4). Sketch a small circle inside each of the eyes for pupils. For more detail, create a second circle inside each pupil to fill in later with black ink.

    • 5). Create the nose with a slightly-bent line along the vertical axis guideline, representing the bridge. Round out the bottom of the nose, then attach two slender ovals on either side to reflect the nostrils.

    • 6). Draw a slim, football-shaped oval below the nose to form the basic structure of the mouth. Divide the mouth into two sections for the upper and lower lips. Create a slight, U-shaped bend in the middle of the upper lip to give it a more realistic appearance.

    • 7). Create a light, curved line underneath the mouth to represent a chiseled chin. Sketch the outline of the chin to be more chiseled and pointed than round, ensuring that it reflects the picture you are using as a reference.

    • 8). Use small, vertical lines for arched eyebrows over each of the eyes. If visible in your reference, use light, horizontal lines to create the creased texture of the forehead of your person. Study the picture you are using, then create the hair by using long, flowing strokes for longer hair and small, straight lines for shorter hair.

    • 9). Draw slender ovals on either side of the face at eye level to create each of the ears. People with longer hair may have their ears partially or completely covered with hair.

Trace all of the necessary pencil lines, ignoring any guidelines, with an ink pen to create a clean and bold look. Carefully move the pen over each of the sections, ensuring that you do not smear any of the ink during this process. Let the ink dry, then erase any remaining pencil marks.
