How to Put a Signature on a Painting

    • 1). Sign the painting in the same medium you painted in to give it more authenticity. For instance, if your painting is an acrylic, you should use acrylic paint and a fine-point brush to sign your name. Blend in the signature with your painting so that it does not stand out too much.

    • 2). Avoid putting your signature too close to the edge of the canvas; you want to leave enough room for the picture frame.

    • 3). Use the same signature style for each piece of artwork you complete, whether it be your initials, full name, first initial and last name or other style of signature.

    • 4). Sign the painting as soon as the work is complete, preferably while some of your medium is still slightly wet to better blend in the signature with the painting itself. Sign your name before applying the final coat of varnish.
