How to Design CD Labels

• 1). Turn on your computer and open a graphic design program, such as Adobe Photoshop or MediaFACE. If you do not already have a program of this type installed on your computer, download an application online. Download CD label templates for the software that you are using if they do not come preloaded for your software. Make sure you download the template that corresponds to the blank paper CD labels that you are using. Use common CD label templates from Neato or Avery.
  
  
• 2). Design the background of the CD label. Choose between solid colors, gradients, patterns, or photographs. Do not make the background overly complex or harsh on the eyes, as this can distract from the main content and text on the CD label.
  
  
• 3). Create the main content of the CD label. Make sure that the design of the CD label corresponds to the content of the CD. If you are designing a CD label for a band or musical artist, consult with the artist to determine what type of subject matter is appropriate for the CD label. Use abstract drawings, clip-art images and photographs to create the main content of the label. Use image filters to adjust the colors and textures of the main content on the CD label. Choose a design that complements the round shape of the label and the circular hole in the center of the CD.
  
  
• 4). Insert title text on the CD label. Choose a font and color for your text that complements the background and main content of the CD label. Make sure that the text is not so small that it is unreadable or so large that it blocks the artistic design of the label.
  
  
• 5). Print and apply your CD label. Determine whether your design would look best on a CD label with a matte finish or a glossy finish. Make sure you line up your CD label correctly with your CD so that the design is aligned straight on the CD.
