    • 1). Inspect the wood for any decay or loose boards. Rip up old boards and replace them if necessary.

    • 2). Mix together water and the deck cleaning detergent in a pressure sprayer according to the mixing instructions on the detergent packaging. Pump the sprayer to pressurize it.

    • 3). Spray a small section of the deck with the detergent. Apply to small sections that you can easily scrub within 15 minutes. The detergent will start to dry after 15 minutes, making it difficult to get out.

    • 4). Scrub the detergent sprayed area with a stiff broom to remove dirt. Spray and scrub over the entire deck.

    • 5). Connect the pressure washer hose to your outside hose bib, and connect the hose to the water intake connection towards the bottom of the machine. Attach the hose according to the machine instructions.

    • 6). Spray the deck with the pressure washer, holding the wand about 1 foot from the wood. Spray the entire deck and then inspect it for any dark spots. If dark spots are present, use a wood brightener to remove the spots. Mix together the wood brightener and water, if specified on the packaging instructions, in a garden sprayer and spray the deck in small sections. Rinse the brightener away with the pressure washer after it has penetrated the wood for the specified time on the packaging instructions.
