How to Reset a Pearl in a Ring
- 1). Remove the pearl from the ring by placing the ring in a pan of water on the stove. Slowly heat the water.
- 2). When the water feels warm to the touch, remove the ring from the pan and try to pull the pearl free from the post to which it is glued. If it doesn't pull free, place the ring back in the pan and repeat every minute until the pearl pulls free. Stop heating the ring in the water when the water feels too hot to the touch.
- 3). If the water technique fails, soften the glue with acetone. Apply a bit of acetone onto a cotton swab and dab it onto the glue. Take care not to get any acetone on the pearl. This can dull the pearl.
- 1). Squeeze a dab of jeweler's glue onto the tip of a toothpick and generously apply the glue all over the metal post.
- 2). Line up the hole in the pearl with the metal post and firmly press the pearl down onto it. Make sure that the point at which the pearl and the metal post meet is firmly set.
- 3). Allow the glue to cure for 24 hours before wearing the ring.
