How to Replace a Gear Knob on My Saturn

    • 1). Park the Saturn and engage the parking brake.

    • 2). Locate the locking nut directly underneath the gearshift knob. Turn the locking nut clockwise with an adjustable wrench until the shifting knob is able to turn with no restrictions.

    • 3). Turn the gear knob itself counterclockwise with your hand until it is completely unscrewed from the gearshift.

    • 4). Screw the new gearshift knob onto the shifting arm by turning it clockwise. Once the knob is tight, position it so that the gearshift diagram faces in the proper direction so the driver can read it.

    • 5). Tighten the locking nut below the gearshift by turning the nut counterclockwise until it meets the bottom of the gear knob. Hold the knob with one hand so that it does not turn and finish tightening the locking nut to the bottom of the gear knob until the nut stops moving.
