How to Make Home Wall Art Paintings
- 1). Use your decorating style to help you select a theme and subject. If you've decorated your home in a contemporary style, paint a wall using a modern style of painting such as Art Deco, abstract or expressionism. If your decorating style is more traditional, choose a theme you can portray best through traditional representational paintings styles.
- 2). Take reference pictures. If you've decided you're going to do a series of wall art paintings of pianos in the Cubist style, take numerous pictures of pianos from different angles. Use a digital camera and print out the photos.
- 3). Draw a rough draft. Make thumbnail sketches of your home wall art ideas. Sketch out the composition. Decide on the colors you'll use and use colored pencils to get your ideas down on paper. Add in or take out subjects. Use the reference photos you took to guide you. Determine the dimensions of the painting and create a final rough copy.
- 4). Transfer the rough drawing to your canvas. Use an overhead projector to get your final drawing onto the canvas. Use vine charcoal to make the marks.
- 5). Use the type of paint with which you're most comfortable and fits the style of your decor. If it's watercolors, paint with those. Use oils if that's your preference.
- 6). Frame your finished home artwork.
