Web Browser Configuration

• If you are unable to enter Yahoo! Chat, you may need to reset your Web browser configuration. Although you can use any browser while using the chat feature, Yahoo! recommends the use of Internet Explorer to ensure the feature's optimal performance. Press and hold the “Windows” key on your computer, and then press the “R” key. Release both keys when the “Run” window opens. Type “inetcpl.cpl” in the “Open” field and press “Enter.” Click the “Advanced” tab, and then click “Reset.” Check the “Delete Personal Settings” box and click “Reset.” Click “Close” and attempt to enter chat.
  
  

Clear Cache

• Clear your Yahoo! Messenger cache if you are still unable to access chat. Exit out of Yahoo! Messenger. Click the “Start” button on your computer, and then click “Programs.” Click “Accessories,” and then click “Command Prompt.” Paste “rd "%AppData%\Yahoo!\" /s /q” in the blank field and press “Enter.” Paste “rd "%ProgramFiles%\Yahoo!\Messenger\Cache\" /s /q” in the field and press “Enter.”
  
  Paste “rd "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Yahoo!\Messenger\Cache\" /s /q” in the field and press “Enter.” Paste “rd "%LocalAppData%\VirtualStore\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Cache" /s /q” in the field and press “Enter.” Paste “rd "%LocalAppData%\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Yahoo!\Messenger\Cache" /s /q” and press “Enter.” Close the window and relaunch chat.
  
  

Uninstall/Reinstall

• If chat continues to fail, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the Yahoo! Messenger application. Press and hold down the “Windows” key, and then press “R.” Enter “appwiz.cpl” in the “Open” field and press “Enter.” Click “Yahoo! Messenger,” and then click “Uninstall.” Click “Finish” when the process completes. Restart your computer and download the Yahoo! Messenger app again from Messenger.yahoo.com/download. Attempt to access chat after the installation completes.

• Additional support from Yahoo! may be necessary if you are still unable to enter Yahoo! Chat. You can complete a request for additional help through the Yahoo! Help website. Provide your Yahoo! ID and the name and room number of the chat room you are unable to enter. You should also include your city and state to better help the support team determine if the incident is affecting others in your area. The time it takes for a response to your request varies depending on the volume of requests for help received by the support team.
