How to Remove the Door Panels on a 1996 GMC Sonoma
- 1). Use the wash cloth to release the window handle spring (horseshoe-shaped) clip. Pull up on window handle and slide the wash cloth between the handle and the door panel.
- 2). Use a crosshead screwdriver to unscrew the single screw located behind the inner door handle. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry out the plastic fastener. Slide the door handle cover off the door handle.
- 3). Remove the remaining screws (or bolts) from along the outer edge of the door panel.
- 4). Slip one flathead screwdriver between the door panel and the door frame. Slide the flathead under the panel until locating the retaining hook, then slide the other flathead on the opposite side of the retaining hook. Use both flatheads (one on each side of retaining hook) to pull the panel from frame.
- 5). Wiggle the door panel upward and outward from the door frame.
