Finding YouTube Music Videos

YouTube is one of the best places you can go to on the web to get your music fix. For many successful artists today, uploading their own YouTube music videos allowed them to get their foot in the door to the music industry.

Here are a few tips you can use to find the music video you want to watch, and how to discover new videos, channels and emerging artists that suit your taste in music.

Look for Vevo Channels on YouTube

Vevo has always been great for finding all the really popular music by all the top artists and bands who dominate the Top 40 charts, so looking for YouTube channels that have 'VEVO' in their channel names is a good way to start when it comes to finding popular music.

Vevo is a music video service that has partnered with YouTube, so most big artists have Vevo channels up on YouTube. You can subscribe to the official Vevo YouTube channel and consider checking out their "Hot This Week" videos to stay up to date on the most recent trends in music.

Browse Through YouTube's Music Category

Did you know that YouTube gives you a variety of channel recommendations based on categorical content? All you have to do is press Browse Channels in the left sidebar (if you're looking at YouTube on the web) and then scroll down until you see Music.

You can click on Music to see a list of recommended channels by popular artists, including a combination of popular Vevo channels and regular channels. Most of these will be well-known artists that have thousands or even millions of subscribers already.

Check Out the 'Popular on YouTube' Section

On your YouTube homepage, you can scroll down to see the Popular on YouTube section, which you can click on. From there, scroll down until you see Music and click on it.

This should feature a playlist selection of twenty or so music videos that are currently trending on YouTube. Watch them all separately or click the Play All button at the top.

Search for Popular Song Covers

YouTube is great for keeping up with the biggest artists and most popular music, but if you're not using YouTube to keep up with music videos from some of the lesser known, newly emerging artists, then you're missing out on some really great content.

There are tons of singers, songwriters, musicians and bands just waiting to be discovered on YouTube, and they often post their own interpretations of other popular songs by uploading covers of them. Simply type any song title into the search followed by 'cover' to see what comes up.

Keep an Eye on Your 'Recommended' Section on YouTube

Google pays close attention to what you're already watching and then tries to find similar channels or videos that are similar or related so that it can make suggestions to you.

If you're already watching lots of music videos and subscribing to artists' channels, then chances are YouTube will find more for you and suggest you watch them in your Recommended section. The Recommended section can be found on the YouTube homepage.

Use Google Search to Find YouTube Music Videos

In February 2014, Google introduced a new type of card (similar to Google Now) for YouTube music videos that show up first now in search results.

Simply type a song title into Google, and if it's on YouTube, a large image with a play button in the middle of it should be listed first. Clicking it will redirect you to YouTube so you can watch it.
