Teens Who Are Bystanders Can Prevent Bullying
It can be said that 2010 was the year of bullying in schools across the U.
S.
Unfortunately, some teens took their lives because they couldn't deal with bullying.
What if bystanders would have spoken up? How would that have made a difference? If teens are bystanders who do nothing, they're not helping the bullying situation.
They're contributing to it.
Many teens are probably afraid to take a stand against bullying because they may be the next target.
Sometimes in life it's necessary to take a stand for what you believe in and not back down for it.
If teens believe bullying is wrong, parents and school administrators can help them do something about it.
Teens can create a committee or group at school to prevent bullying.
They can hold meetings and rallies to draw attention to bullying at school.
The more publicity teens can draw to their efforts the more effective their efforts will be.
Being a bystander is just as bad as being a bully.
Deep down teens probably know that bullying is wrong but their too afraid to do something about it.
Don't allow teens to be like everyone else.
Encourage them to speak out instead of hiding in a corner.
High school can be tough but will teens do when they're thrust into the real world away from the protection of mom and dad? If they can't stand up for what they believe in while they're a teen, how they you do it when they're adults? If teens are ready to step out of the shadows and stand up to bullies, they're taking a step in the right direction.
Teens need to know they can voice their concerns and opinions.
They can be strong, they can be leaders.
What would have happened if Dr.
Martin Luther King and others didn't do anything about civil rights? How would that affect you and your friends today? What if people throughout history such as Joan of Arc didn't do anything? Think about that and have the courage to stand up to bullies.
