Shovel Cushion

• Yard work that requires digging in the dirt with a shovel puts quite a strain on the soles of your feet. Some cushioning can significantly reduce the problems associated with repetitive movements of the foot against the shovel. Slice two small pieces of garden hose lengthwise so that each piece can slide over the edges of the shovel blade on either side of the handle to provide a simple and easy cushion.
  
  

Wobbly Lawn Mower

• If you notice a wobble in your lawn mower, turn off the machine and inspect the wheels. The most likely cause of a wobbling mower is a loose bolt which you can tighten with a wrench. • The job of raking leaves will take much less of your time if you allow the leaves to rest on the lawn for awhile. Over time, wind scatters fallen leaves out of your yard completely or up against fences or walls. The best time to take out the rake is when Mother Nature has created piles that make gathering that large collection of fallen leaves much easier.
  
  

Efficient Watering

• Chose the best time of day to increase the efficiency of watering your lawn. More water will evaporate from the top of the soil before it has had a chance to sink down to the roots during hot weather. You can reduce the effects of evaporation by watering earlier in the day when the temperature is not so high and the breeze is calmer.
  
  

Electric Equipment and Tools

• You can protect your back by choosing yard equipment powered by electricity or replacing gas powered tools with their electric counterparts. Most tools and equipment that run on electricity are lighter and therefore easier to hold and operate than those powered by gas. Going with lighter weight tools can make your yard work more productive and will be easier on your muscles.
