How to Make a Basic Longbow Cheap
To make a longbow: 1.
Choose the right wood, you can't just use any wood.
Great wood to use is Yew wood, Oak, Maple Hickory.
Before choosing wood read up on types in your area and if you can use them.
Your wood needs to be dry.
2.
Pick the right plan, I would recommend a basic longbow out of white wood.
There is good pictures of bows online that you might be able to get an idea of basic plans.
3.
Rough out the bow shape you choose with a drawknife.
This part is the fun part but don't take off too much wood or you will have to start a new one.
4.
Take off wood with a rasp.
This part goes slow but it is the only way to make a bow or you will not be able to make it even.
You now should be able to bend your bow half the distance it will until full draw.
5.
Take off wood with a scraper and bend the bow back and forth to see if it bends good.
6.
Then sand paper it slowly while checking the tiller of the bow every few minutes.
7.
Tiler your bows perfect or they won't work so good.
8.
Now make a handle, leather works best wrap the leather around until it feels good in the hand.
Now you must go and make at least 10 bows and read some books about bow making before you can expect it to work well.
The more you make the closer you get to a master work, but the 1st will be shooting arrows and that's where the fun is.
The first few bows you make are trial and error.
You can be making bows in no time its just you will of course make mistakes.
Good Luck!
