Are Friends Actually Friends

We all think that we have lots of friends. Friendship, like love, is one of the most common words that get thrown around. When you bump into someone from high school, most often you tell someone that you "bumped into one of your friends". Many times the person you refer to as a friend is merely someone that you spent time with or used to "hang out" with.

The problem with assuming that all the people you spend time with are your friends, is that you have a high risk of getting mistreated. People that are not your true friends will tell every secret you have ever told them. There is no real bond to keep things between two people, so they feel they can just spread the information around.

People you will consider friends often times don't have any conviction to keep you safe. We all know the type of person that either lets you get hurt, or does the hurting. I have personally seen many so called "friends" allow another person to be beat up by a group of people, instead of coming to their rescue. I have seen it verbally as well.

Finallly fake friends are never there when you need them. More often than not, they have some excuse as to why they couldn't help you. They will allmost certainly leave you for another group of people, and expect to be able to come back to you any time. These are no real friends!

Following are the things to keep in mind when determining if you have true friends...
  1. Real friends are always there for you.
  2. Real friends stand up for you.
  3. Real friends will be the last ones by your side every time.

If you are ever in a difficult situation a real freind will not hesitate to come give you a hand. Don't expect that everyone will come running, because you will be sadly mistaken. Real friends are few and far between unfotunately, so if you have a picture of who I am describing so far, be very grateful for them.

A real friend will stand up for you and your personal safety. I know that if someone was trying to hurt me physically or verbally, I have one friend that would do anything to protect me. Real friends would do almost anything to protect you from danger, because there is a bond almost like family between them.

The most important eye opener to true friendship is that they will be the last ones by your side EVERY TIME. Fake friends don't want any trouble over you, so they will flee at the first sign of a trial. The real friends you have will be by your side no matter the circumstance. They will be the only ones left when the dust clears and are happy to be there.

So the next step for you is to look at all your friendships objectively. Think of all the trials you have been through, and think about who was there for you when the going got tough. It may only be one person, or a small group, but if someone is there time and again, you know they're there because they have love for you. Appreciate who you do have in your life, and strive to give those people the same friendship they have given to you. Keep your true friends close because there are only a handful that come along in life.
