Yacht Window Treatments

    • Owners of yachts want to have the best of everything, including window treatments for the yacht. There are a variety of ideas you can choose from ranging from curtains to covering the windows with a translucent film. Blinds are another option for your yacht window treatments. Choose the window treatment that works best for you and the décor of your yacht.

    Valances

    • Sew or buy a valance for any short windows in your yacht. A valance is a window treatment that hangs down one third to one half the length of the window. You can hang a window treatment that acts as a valance or use a regular valance to completely cover your window if you want privacy. Make a simple valance by cutting your fabric to double the finished length you need, hem it, fold it in half and sew a rod casing. Use a spring tension rod, if possible, and put it inside your yacht's window casing, otherwise install traditional curtain rod hardware as you normally would in your home.

    • Purchase min blinds from a specialty window store. These stores will make and cut blinds to whatever measurements you need, since the windows in your yacht are probably not a standard size. Choose the materials you want for your blinds, whether plastic or wood slats or fabric. Make sure to take careful measurements of your window inside the casing, as this is where you blinds will hang, and the height of the window.

    Window Film

    • Use window film to cover your windows. Window film is a translucent finish you brush on or a film you stick on, like contact paper. Window film allows you to have complete privacy inside your yacht, but still have the light through the windows. Choose from a variety of options including contact paper, Epsom salt glaze or a paint glaze. All are easily removable when you are ready to take it off the window, either by simply spraying with warm water and using a mild scrubber or by peeling it off.

    Roman Blinds

    • Hang Roman blinds for use as both a curtain and a shade. Roman blinds use a pulley system that allows you to raise the curtain when you want sunshine and fresh air or lower it when you want privacy. Use any fabric you want to make a Roman blind that matches the décor of the rest of your yacht. Make sure you install heavy-duty curtain rod hardware to give added strength for all the pulling that a Roman blind receives.
